We finally know what happens in Dragon Ball Super Manga Chapter 74 thanks to leaked spoilers and draft pages. Many of us, including myself, have spent the last month predicting that exactly what happened would happen. Look at any of my articles before the leaks were posted and you will see that I did indeed predict Vegeta would get a new form. What I was off about was what the form would look like. We don’t yet know what this form is capable of, but based on God of Destruction Toppo in the Tournament of Power I made some likely predictions. The biggest being ki neutralization and the ability to create a full body hakai shield. I had no idea however, that Vegeta would lose his eyebrows somewhere between Super Saiyan 3 and Blue Evolution (with likely purple hair). That isn’t what this article is about though. This article is about something entirely different.

What are the odds of Vegeta truly becoming Beerus’ replacement? Could it happen? Would it happen? Well we are going to do an in depth character analysis of the prince of all 5.25 Saiyans (I am counting Trunks, Gohan, Goten, and Bulla as half a Saiyan each, Pan is the .25) to see if he would even have a slight interest in becoming a God of Destruction. The results of this analysis may actually surprise you. We are not going to be using any head-canon for this. This will be an analysis of him based strictly on what we know about Vegeta prior to his training with Beerus, and what we know about Vegeta after his training with Beerus.

Vegeta before his training would have absolutely no interest in taking the job of a destroyer. In fact, during the Moro arc, Vegeta was desperately trying to atone for his sins and prevent Moro from enacting his destructive plans. At this time Vegeta would have absolutely no interest in taking on the job of a destroyer. He values life, feels guilty for taking it from others back in Dragon Ball Z during the Namek arc, and wants to prove to himself and everyone else that he has changed. He loves his wife Bulma, and his kids Trunks, and Bulla, very much. He has no interest at this time in becoming a destroyer or even destroying anything at all. He certainly has the power even without the ability to perform a hakai to destroy just about anything he wants. Although he doesn’t have the ability to erase entire timelines yet, something he gains after Beerus trains him. Still his destructive capabilities are certainly impressive and he is exercising extreme control over them. This Vegeta would never be a destroyer God.

Now we can move on to the current Vegeta. The one who listened to Beerus’s lecture, trained with him, and actually took on the hakai. Amazingly enough Vegeta’s urge to protect everyone is ultimately what brought him this power. Beerus showed Vegeta just how weak he truly is compared to him, and the mental road blocks he is facing which keep him from ever becoming stronger. After this lecture and slight skirmish where Vegeta gets his armor Hakai’d we see Vegeta take on a new mental state. One where he wants to get stronger not to atone, but to protect and remain relevant to Goku. This is evidenced when Beerus tells him that Ultra Instinct is not the only tactic of the gods and agrees to train him. What Vegeta doesn’t realize at this time is just what this training will entail.

In order to master the hakai Vegeta needed to take on an entirely new state of mind. One that is the exact opposite of what he was focused on before the lecture. Vegeta must now focus purely on destruction if he has any hope of mastering the hakai and unlocking the new form he see him achieve in Dragon Ball Super manga chapter 74 and Beerus helps him to do this. Other than blowing up rocks and logs we don’t see much of what Vegeta’s training entails but it is clear towards the end that Vegeta had mastered the hakai, and Beerus had given him a hakaishin earring. Something that seems to be the sign of someone adept at the hakai.

At this point Vegeta has already made his decision. He has decided to take on the powers of a destroyer and thereby the mental state of one as well. For without that the hakai is not possible. This means that current Vegeta is an entirely different Vegeta from the one we knew just a few chapters ago. This Vegeta may actually be willing to take Beerus’s place if not at least temporarily. I doubt Vegeta would ever just throw his family away, not for a job like this, but considering the change in his way of thinking it is entirely possible we may see Vegeta play the role of destroyer for at least a little while. Even if it is just a filler episode it would be fun to watch, but with Vegeta being in the new state of mind he is in. He would have no issue just destroying whatever he wants without a second thought. Something Vegeta prior to this could no longer do.

We do get to see a feature of Vegeta which entirely proves that this is his new mind state as well. In chapter 73 Vegeta had no problem threatening the destruction of the Cerealian race despite having figured out Granolah is not a bad guy. Goku tried to give Granolah a chance and got caught off guard because of it. Vegeta on the other hand seems to have removed any trace of that weakness from his being. He no longer cares whether Granolah is good, bad, or the last of his species. He simply says he will destroy him and his entire timeline, and he seems to be serious.

Despite Vegeta first being overwhelmed, we now know that Vegeta was not taking the fight seriously. Vegeta transformed and Granolah for the first time actually looks scared. He backs off of Vegeta and even says he thinks he is dangerous. Vegeta clearly has the power to erase Granolah and do so without a second thought with his new form. We will have to wait and see if he actually does. But I think that in Vegeta’s current mindstate, he very well would take on the job of destroyer.

After all, a few chapters ago he was feeling guilty for not only his own sins, but the sins of the Saiyans as a whole. In this chapter he is willing to finish what they started and end the Cerealian race. This Vegeta is the polar opposite of what we saw in the Moro arc. This new Vegeta not only has the powers of a destroyer, but the mental state to take the job as well. Whether you agree or not is up to you but the evidence shows clearly that Vegeta may indeed become a destroyer at some point. Although it is doubtful it would last very long. Truly it is up to Toriyama and Toyotaro to decide. It would certainly be entertaining though.
